How do I register a beverage with SFDA in Saudi Arabia?
Food products must be registered with the Saudi Food and Drug Authority before import, and the registration is the importer's responsibility. The importer — a company with a Saudi commercial registration covering food trade, registered with SFDA — files the product details, ingredients, label, shelf life, producer information and test results. We prepare and screen the file, review the Arabic label, and manage the filing with your importer, from AED 18,000 per product.
How much does SFDA beverage registration cost?
Our SFDA registration starts from AED 18,000 per product, excluding VAT. Government fees are passed through at cost, and laboratory testing, conformity certification and logistics are separate. The final quote depends on the product and how much of the file already exists. If you also register in the UAE, the UAE package is AED 12,000 per product.
Do I need a Saudi importer to sell a beverage in Saudi Arabia?
Yes. Importers bringing food into Saudi Arabia must be registered with SFDA and hold a commercial registration that lists food trade, and product registration is their responsibility. That can be a distributor, your own Saudi entity, or a partner acting as importer. We plan the importer question first, because it decides who holds the registration and how your Saudi price is built.
What label standards apply to beverages in Saudi Arabia?
Saudi Arabia applies GCC labelling (GSO 9): mandatory items in Arabic, including product name, ingredients, allergens, net quantity, dates, storage, origin and producer or importer. Nutrition labelling follows SFDA.FD 2233 / GSO 2233, and health or nutrition claims must meet SFDA.FD 2333 and be scientifically supported. We review artwork against these rules and the file before print — packaging design from AED 8,000 per SKU.
Can a beverage made in the UAE be sold in Saudi Arabia?
Yes. A UAE-made beverage can be sold in Saudi Arabia once it is registered with SFDA through a Saudi importer and labelled to Saudi requirements. If the UAE label and product file are built to GCC rules from the start, Saudi registration becomes a parallel track. See export from the UAE and Saudi Arabia and MENA.
Does UAE registration count for Saudi Arabia?
No. The UAE and Saudi Arabia register products separately, with different authorities and different holders: a UAE-licensed company in the UAE, an SFDA-registered importer in Saudi Arabia. The content overlaps a lot — same GCC labelling base, same recipe data — so one well-built file saves most of the work. Compare both markets.
Do shipments to Saudi Arabia need extra certificates?
Often, yes. Depending on the product, shipments may need conformity certification, a certified invoice and a halal certificate where applicable, in addition to product registration. Requirements depend on the product and change over time, so we confirm the list for your product and route before the first shipment is planned.
How does the Saudi sugar tax affect my beverage?
Since 1 January 2026 Saudi Arabia taxes sweetened drinks per litre according to sugar content per 100 ml, replacing the earlier flat rate on the retail price. Sugar level therefore affects your Saudi shelf price directly. We model the tier during product development and, where it pays, reformulate to a lower tier before registration.
Do you guarantee SFDA approval?
No — no one can honestly guarantee it; SFDA makes the decision. We manage the process, screen the formula, label and claims against Saudi rules before filing, and handle the authority's questions with your importer, so the usual reasons for refusal are checked before filing.
